Monique Walker "My Genesis"

Surrounded by music since birth, Monique learned how to effectively deliver a song very early singing in the once-famous Youth and Radio choirs of the Institutional Church of God In Christ where her grandfather served as pastor. It was during this time that she not only overcame stage fright, but also honed her ability to evangelize through song.

Monique broke ground in her professional career with her role in the internationally successful off-Broadway play, “The Gospel at Colonus”, with which she toured Europe and was featured on a PBS broadcast of the production. Immediately following that run, she landed a starring role in the Broadway production of ”Don’t Get God Started” which also featured Gianca.

Just as the Broadway run wrapped, Monique began touring with the Love Fellowship Choir where she is best known for her distinctive lead vocals that made classics of songs like, “Let The Glory,” “Thank You” and “Second Chance.” Her hard-driving, soul stirring and anointed leads became a part of the fiber that propelled the New York-based group to Grammy Award, Stellar Award, and NAACP Image Award prominence.

Monique’s diverse vocal style and passionate execution of songs also created numerous opportunities to sing with the greats of Gospel, R&B and Pop including; The Winans, BeBe & CeCe Winans, Whitney Houston, Brandy, Ray Charles, and Stevie Wonder among many others.

With her record as one of the preeminent vocalists of the modern gospel era, Walker felt it was time to regenerate herself and retool her ministry in order to share her God-ordained prowess in music and ministry on both a reinvigorated and deeper level. Ergo the title, “My Genesis.”

This back-to-square-one project fuses together Walker’s fresh; new sound along with her reinterpretations of some her past hit performances. New offerings like “Crazy Praise” are poised to impact listeners no what state they find themselves. Walker says, “It’s about everything that may drive you crazy, but instead of wasting energy on the crazy...give God a “Crazy Praise!”

Another new offering, “Greatest Gift,” was inspired by Fred Jerkins. “This track reminded me of who I was in Christ and brought me back to a place of purpose. Because of it, I will tell everyone who listens that they too are important to God.”

Reaching back to her days with the Love Fellowship Choir, Walker proffers a refueled-version of the emotionally-intense, tear-jerking, fan-favorite, “Second Chance.” Of her past hits Walker says, “There were so many, but I tried to get the ones that I thought were the best.”

Having lived a past, like others, filled with life’s vicissitudes, Walker has taken the lessons learned and strength gained and concentrated them into this bold, solo beginning. “My Genesis,” a keenly crafted opus showcases her new focus, her new determination and her intent to claim all that God has in store for her.
